I just re-discovered quit.im, a photo-sharing #fediverse site built by adding a new UI to #GNUsocial (I think). Would be good to test federation between this and #PixelFed and #Zinat @pixeldev @zinat

@LWFlouisa @cwebber I think it depends a lot which pod you're on, and which other pods it's aware of. I'm strypey@JoinDiaspora.com and I've only come across one or two Trumpers, and plenty of more sympathetic types. TBH I've found the #fediverse (first #GNUSocial, tried Hubzilla and Pleroma, currently using #Mastodon via the Pinafore UI) much more user-friendly than Diaspora in general and use it much more regularly

@LWFlouisa @cwebber seems to me that so far #Mastodon has done a better job of this than #Diaspora, perhaps because Mastodon only came into existence after the alt-right started to get kicked off Twitter and migrate to #GNUSocial (and then to #postActiv and #Pleroma), so they had to deal with them from day 1, whereas the frothing-at-the-mouth crowd only discovered D* fairly recently (maybe due to #NaturalNews going there).

I already knew that #Mastodon allows exporting and importing contacts as .csv files. This is why I moved from #GNUSocial to Mastodon.

I just found out that it also lets you request and download an archive of your toots and uploaded media.

"The exported data will be in #ActivityPub format, readable by any compliant software. You can request an archive every 7 days."

These are extremely useful features for those who have accounts on "other people's" instances.

I try to use whatever that connects me to the #fediverse. It doesn't have to be #gnusocial. #Mastodon offers better data portability for those who use other people's instances. I can export and import my contacts without any hassle.

@mcscx @arunisaac Thanks you two for the information, didn't know about the #GnuSocial feeds.
As the accounts in question are not GnuSocial based, though, and since using an RSS reader isn't quite the general purpose solution I'm after, I guess I'm stuck with creating several accounts based on 'interest groups'...

...and then I wonder whether I shouldn't just keep the FB account open for one of those low activity interest groups... less hassle and all that... 🙂
